How Could We Start a New Country?
It's time we seriously discussed, "How could we start a new country?" Imagine a network state: a new country that believes in technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship. 🤔
The Netherlands + Europe is clearly in decline. If you grow, but still slower than the rest, you are in decline. If we can't convince the current government about the importance of the Groeifonds, international talent, our competitiveness, the importance of innovation, and entrepreneurs, we are clearly in decline.
We're distracted by ESG initiatives and lack focus on what matters most: our competitiveness.
We have failed to convince decision makers or to hold them accountable. It's clear where we stand. Now you have two options: you can keep trying to reform from within or from the outside.
Reform from within didn't work. So, let's consider reform from the outside.
Reforming from the outside means building new parallel initiatives and even a new parallel society that can grow into a startup society and, finally, into a network state.
What is a network state?
The short definition is: "A network state is a highly aligned online community with the capacity for collective action that crowdfunds territory around the world and eventually gains diplomatic recognition from pre-existing states."
If you want a better world where technology, innovation, and entrepreneurs are taken seriously, who are tackling the world's biggest challenges, you may consider the network state as a real option.
It's a big vision, but one with true potential. How could we do this?
1. Start with a digital community first: a community that forms on the internet, builds a culture online, and only then comes together in person to build dwellings and structures.
2. Startup society: Then, you build a startup society based on internet values. Open-source, decentralised, and digital community first; physical structures come later.
3. Network union: At this stage, the community is bigger. It's a tree-like structure with a leader, a purpose, and a crypto-based financial and messaging system. It promotes the common purpose and collective interests of its members through daily actions, using crowdfunding options for physical nodes.
4. Negotiate for diplomatic recognition: At this time, you can negotiate for diplomatic recognition to become a true network state. So… Why now?The reform from within is clearly not working. So why wait? Why try longer? It's time to build a new parallel society, using the power of the internet, the decentralised Bitcoin network, web3 to enable new chains, and remote work and Starlink to open the map, while VR and AI offer new technological possibilities to build a better and new society. The question now is, are you joining this movement, or do you still believe in reform from within? The Network State book written by Balaji is free to read here:
